Rich Jeffries dies of pulmonary fibrosis at 73
For me, I'm ready to take another break from high school, as spring break has begun for me with a death in the game show family. 80s game show announcer Rich Jeffries died of pulmonary fibrosis today at 73 years old. Jeffries was a great game show announcer and announced Bill Rafferty's entire run of Blockbusters, which first aired from January 5-May 1, 1987. Jeffries took over as the announcer of Bill Cullen's version , but only from April 12-23, 1982. Jeffries was a sub-announcer on Password Plus for three weeks in January 1981, filling in for Gene Wood, and was the regular announcer on Super Password from September 24-November 23, 1984. On the following Monday, Wood took over for Jeffries as Super Password's regular announcer, but Jeffries substituted for Wood on occasion afterwards. He substituted for Wood for a final time on Love Connection in 1987, and was one of the substitute announcers on Bob Barker's CBS daytime Price is Right, but only in January 1986. Rich Jeffries is actually the stage name of Jeff Richards (born Jefferson Ray Richards on September 1, 1938).
